It's easy to see an article about nutrition and take everything word for word, but the key thing to remember is that there are a million different opinions floating around regarding this topic so here are a few myths to be wary of.

1. Carbohydrates are bad for you - This is not true, we need carbohydrates to provide us with energy. Lots of people believe that cutting carbs out of their diet is the key to weight loss but this is not an effective long term solution. If you are looking to make meals featuring carbs healthier then looking at small changes such as switching to wholemeal pasta or bread is a much more effective solution!

2. Low fat means healthier- This is not strictly true as a low fat diet does not necessarily mean a healthy diet. Unsaturated fats are what our body needs as they have been associated with lowering blood cholesterol- they are found in products such as avocados, oily fish and nuts. Low fat options are beneficial if you are looking to avoid high saturated fats which are associated with high cholesterol and heart disease.

3. Frozen fruit and veg is not as healthy as fresh - Again not true! Of course fresh fruit is good for you but as the fruit ripens its sugar content increases, freezing fruit and veg often preserves the nutrients meaning its just as healthy as fresh!

4. Having a tasty treat is bad for you- Never feel bad about allowing yourself a treat! Of course it's important to keep are intake of fats and sugars low but that doesn't mean you are never allowed a slice of cake! There are of course healthy snacking options you could go for such as granola bars but allowing yourself a treat once in while will not ruin your healthy diet.
